The 12v car battery is however the most common battery that people want to recondition. It’s requested the most and for obvious reasons, your car is important and a new battery for it is expensive.

It’s a mix of sulphuric acid and water. You don’t want to get it on your skin, in your eyes or even on your clothes. So be extra careful, I will provide additional safety advice step by step below.

Step One – Preparing for car battery reconditioning.
Safety Tip 1! Make sure you are wearing your safety goggles and gloves from start to finish.
The first stage of car battery reconditioning is to clean the battery posts (terminals). There will be corrosion built up on the battery posts. I recommend using battery post cleaner* for this but it’s optional, you can create your own solution and use other brushes to get the same results.
To create your own battery post cleaning solution, you will need a tablespoon of water and 2 table spoons of baking soda, Mix the two together until you have a runny paste. Then take a toothbrush and apply it to your battery posts. Whilst scrubbing the battery posts you should notice the solution foaming up. This means that your solution is reacting to and removing the corrosion from the battery post.
If your battery has a heavy corrosion on the terminals you may need swap out your brush for steel wool or a steel wired brush. You can also use 300 grain sandpaper.

After you have cleaned the battery and terminals it’s time to test the current voltage of the battery and move on to battery reconditioning.
Step Two – Checking the Battery Voltage.
To check the voltage of the battery you’ll need your digital multi meter. These common testers and cheap to buy and very useful for many jobs so get yourself one. Take your multi meter and connect it to the battery terminals. Make sure you connect the multi meter correctly and you should see what condition your battery is in.
If you see 12.6v+ then your battery is in good condition and the corrosion on your posts may have been causing issues. Don’t see 12.4v or more then your battery needs reconditioning. Also if you see 0 volts then it’s likely that your battery has suffered a short circuit and this battery reconditioning method likely wont fix that.
After you have your voltage reading you’ll know whether you need to proceed with Battery reconditioning or not. You should write down the voltage reading for future reference when testing your battery after reconditioning.
Step Three – Emptying Your Battery Acid and Cleaning Cells.

Now it’s time to remove the old acid that’s left inside your battery cells and then clean the inside of the cells. Take your flathead screw driver and slide it under the battery caps. Commonly you’ll have 2 or 3 caps but sometimes you can have 6.
Once all the caps are removed you want to make sure you have your bucket ready to pull the acid into. You’ll also want to make sure that you have some baking soda nearby so if you spill the acid you can neutralize it with the baking soda.
Also at this stage before you empty each cell you should take the chance to test each battery cell individually. Doing this could help you discover if your car battery has a dead cell or not.
You can do this by using your digital multi meter on VDC mode. Place your black negative probe on the negative terminal. Then dip your red positive probe into the cell electrolyte. All cells should hopefully show some voltage, even 0.5 volts is fine. The voltage should increase as you work your way allow the cells. If you see 0 volts in any cell then there is a chance this car battery repair won’t work. 0 volts would indicate a potential short circuit or heavy battery desulfation.
You can still try to rejuvenate a car battery in this state. But chances of success are a lot less.

Take your time and try not to spill any of the battery acid as you roll the battery over until it is upside down above the bucket.
When the battery cells are all empty place your battery to one side and take ½ lb of your baking soda and add it to your bucket of old battery acid. This will neutralize the battery acid so you can safely dispose of it later.
Don’t dispose of it yet.
Now it’s time to clean the inside of your battery cells. To do this you need to mix ½ gallon of distilled water with ½lb of baking soda. Once mixed use your funnel and pour your baking soda mixture into each cell of the battery until each cell is full.
Clip the battery caps back on and shake your battery around for a good 30 seconds to a minute. Now remove the battery caps again and empty your battery cells into the bucket of battery acid and baking soda.
Really make sure you flush the car battery cells out with distilled water . You don’t want to leave any of your baking soda solution in there if possible.
You should now have an empty battery that’s clean and ready for battery reconditioning.
Step Four – Reconditioning Your Battery.
Now you have your old car 12v battery 100% clean and empty you can now refill cells. We are going to refill the battery cells with a new electrolyte made from distilled water and Epsom salt. This is to help restore the electrolyte and raise the voltage of the car battery.
Doing this will also increase the amps the battery can produce. Also this will help stop the sulphating on your plates that is killing your battery and allow you to charge and use the battery again for a time.
How much Epsom salt per gallon for battery?
Take 0.5 lb Epsom salt and 0.5 gallon of distilled boiling water. The reason why you want to boil your distilled water is to make it easier for the Epsom salt to dissolve.
Add your Epsom salt bit by bit whilst stirring it into the distilled water. What you are looking for is clear water, then you know the Epsom salt as fully dissolved. And you have your battery reconditioning electrolyte ready to go.
You’ve made your own electrolyte.
Once all the Epsom salt has been added and is fully dissolved in your distilled water you have your electrolyte. This is how to bring a dead lead acid battery back to life again. Begin to refill your battery cells.
Take your funnel and start filling each cell until you hit the fill level. You want to make sure each cell is 100% full. If not then make more electrolyte although you should have plenty enough (any extra leftover electrolyte keep to one side for later on). Once all the cells are full of your new electrolyte the battery is nearly reconditioned.
Now you need to put your cell caps back on and shake the battery around for a minute or two. Then take the cell caps back off and all that remains is to charge it. And if required cycle it a few times to improve the amperage output.
Step Five – Charging Your Reconditioned Battery.
Safety Tip 3! Do not put the caps that cover your battery cells back on whilst charging it, it’s likely that the electrolyte liquid may heat up and overflow. You don’t want pressure building inside the cells.
So now it’s time to give our reconditioned battery its first charge so grab your battery charger and put it as far away from your battery as the leads will allow. Make sure the charger is unplugged whilst you connect it to avoid any sparks.
Connect the positive lead (+ red cable) to the positive + battery terminal then connect negative (- black cable) to the negative terminal. Now you want to put it on a slow charge 12v/2amp is the best then leave it to charge for at least 24 hours, 36 hours is optimal.
When the time has passed it’s time to load test your reconditioned battery. Unplug your battery charger before you disconnect your battery from the charger again this is to avoid any sparks.
Again, take another voltage reading with your multi meter and write for 1 last update 2020/07/06 down the result. If you are seeing more than 12.43v then that’s good and you can proceed to a load test.Again, take another voltage reading with your multi meter and write down the result. If you haven’t got more than 12.43v yet don’t worry, if you had any electrolyte overflow whilst charging then you need to top the cells back up with more Epsom salt and distilled water then put the battery on charge for another 12 hours. Hopefully after this time you should now be seeing 12v+.

If you have a battery load tester then you can use that. And if you plan on reconditioning more car batteries then I recommend you pick one up, you can buy a fairly cheap one from most hardware stores or from Amazon or eBay.
If you don’t own a battery load tester don’t worry because you can still test your newly reconditioned battery without one. You just can’t be exactly sure how many amps your battery has under load.
But by using your multi meter and putting the battery under load you can see how much voltage the battery has whilst under load.

lead acid battery reconditioning guide 👍how to lead acid battery reconditioning guide for Put your 12v car battery back into your car and connect it again now you want to put on your high beams (do not start the car engine) the high beams will put your battery under load. Wait 5 minutes to remove any surplus charge.
Then take a reading from your voltmeter, if it is reading more than 9.6v then the battery is in working order. Anything under 9.6v then the battery reconditioning process still needs some work.
If your reconditioned battery fails this first load test and is below 9.6v then you need to cycle it. Cycling a battery is basically discharging it (draining it) then charging it again, to speed this up you will want to put your battery under load for a time.
So, turn on your high beams again and leave them on to start draining the battery. After some time, your lights will dim, you can now disconnect the battery and repeat the charging process. Do this multiple times to hopefully get a better recondition battery.
Safety tip 4! Remember to remove the battery cell covers whilst charging your battery.
When your battery has had another 24-36 hours on a slow charge check your battery cells to make sure they are still full of electrolyte.
If they aren’t top them up and take a voltage reading again. Write it down and proceed to do the load test again. This time you should be seeing over 9.6v whilst under load.
If you aren’t then cycle the battery again. This the 1 last update 2020/07/06 may take up to 5 cycles but the vast majority of the time the battery will be reconditioned and over 9.6 volts after the first or second charge.If you aren’t then cycle the battery again. And that’s it you now have a working reconditioned 12v car battery, generally these batteries will last for another 12 months or sometimes more.
After that time if the battery gives up you can try this battery reconditioning process again, I’ve managed to get it to work 3 times before the battery was finally dead and needed replacing.
Alternatives to Epsom Salt Battery Reconditioning.
There are a few alternatives to Epsom salt battery conversion. I personally stick with Epsom salt because I’ve had the best results from it. But you can still try battery reconditioning with alternates to Epsom salt.
One battery reconditioning substitute is Aluminium sulphate. After flushing the battery with baking soda like I mentioned above you can fill it with an electrolyte made from: Aluminium Sulphate plus distilled water. Instead of Epsom salt (Magnesium sulphate) and distilled water.
To do this you will want to mix 1 lb of Aluminium sulphate with 1 gallon of boiling distilled water. Mix the solution so it’s as clear as possible. You’ll notice that the battery charges faster when the electrolyte is made from Aluminium sulphate.
One extra point to note would be the condition of the battery you are the 1 last update 2020/07/06 reconditioning. People convert their lead acid batteries to Aluminium straight away. Doing this can increase the life of the battery because aluminium does not eat at the plates as fast as the normal electrolyte (sulfuric acid) found in lead acid batteries.
You can do this too with a brand new lead acid battery, Just follow the battery reconditioning steps above to replace your electrolyte.

If it works, its short lived and can do more damage than good to your battery. So with this in mind I highly recommend you avoid battery reconditioning with copper sulphate because it simply does not work effectively and Epsom salt is a far better choice for battery reconditioning.
How to fix a dead laptop battery
lead acid battery reconditioning guide ⭐️how to lead acid battery reconditioning guide for There are a few methods you can try to fix a dead laptop battery. Chances are if the battery is totally dead, you’ll have to replace some cells and won’t be able to recondition it straight way.
To replace the cells in the laptop battery pack you’ll first of all need to take the battery pack apart and test each cell for voltage using a multi meter on VDC. This will allow you to identify which cells are bad and will need replacing.
If a cell is below 2v then it’s likely a bad cell and will need replacing. However, if you get a voltage reading above 2v say 2.5v then that cell is likely not totally dead and you’ll be able to recondition that cell.

Ideally in your average laptop battery each cell should read 3.5v or more when charged and fully healthy.

You can get these cells off eBay at fairly reasonable prices. You’ll want to get at least 2200 mAH cells for your laptop to improve the time you can run it off the battery pack.
Also be sure to get the same type of cell that your current battery pack is using. If your laptop is newer then this will likely be a lithium-ion cell. But in older laptops you can find NiCad and NiMH cells.
These two battery types aren’t used in laptop batteries anymore due to the memory effect and slower charging times. Li-ion battery packs allow for superfast charging and are by designed more suited to be laptop batterie cells due to their ability to withstand varied discharge and charge cycles.

Make sure to always wear safety glasses or googles when attempting to solder a new cell into your laptop battery pack. How to fix a drill battery that won’t charge
lead acid battery reconditioning guide 🔥how to lead acid battery reconditioning guide for Drill batteries or power tool battery packs often won’t even begin to take a charge. This happens when the battery pack gets old and is drained fully. Or often left to drain past its fully drained state. Most power tool batteries are NiCad or NiMH and they suffer from the battery memory effect which causes this problem.
If you’re charger shows battery fully charged or does react to your drill battery being plugged into the charger you can try these drill battery reconditioning methods below.
There are three easy methods I can suggest to fix a drill battery that wont charge. These methods will often recondition drill batteries and can work on all different types of voltages be it 12v, 18v, 19.2v etc. Avoid all but number 3 on Li-ion battery packs as these contain electronics and these drill battery repair methods may damage them.
Method 1 Jump start from another drill battery pack – Easy method
Chances are your charger can’t charge your drill battery pack because its dead past a certain point. You just need to give it a small lift in voltage for your charger to be able to charge it again.
Do this by connecting it to another healthy battery pack. Like show in this video below.
Note: You can also use wires not paper clips like shown in the video. Do not do this on Li-ion battery packs. Make sure connect the positive and negative connections correctly. Most power tool battery packs have – and + symbols, if yours does not. Use a multi meter on DC volts to find which terminals are positive and negative.
Method 2 Charger on power surge – Most simple
When you plug your drill battery pack charger into the wall and switch it on. You properly didn’t know that when you switch it on, it gets a large surge of power from the mains outlet. This is common across almost all electrical devices. And normally settles down very quickly to a stable operating current.
If you plug your dead drill battery pack into the charger and a light appears claiming the battery pack is fully charged. You may be able to get this battery pack charging again by using the on surge of current whilst the battery pack is already plugged in.
Do this by plugging your dead drill battery pack into the charger whilst the charger is turned off. Now plug in the drill battery charger. If you see the full charged light come on. Try switching the charger off at the wall multiple times without removing the battery pack.
Hopefully after a few attempts you should see the full charged light change to the charging light. If you do then you should be able to leave your battery pack to charge for as many hours as possible until the charger again shows you the fully charged light.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the drill battery manufacturer designed such a feature to try and get us to buy new batteries all the time.

Now we will talk about how to bring golf cart batteries back to life. This is a question we get often “can golf cart batteries be refurbished?” and the answer is yes, you can restore golf cart batteries.

But you may also see AGM maintenance free batteries or rarely Lithium-ion batteries since those are super expensive for golf cart batteries.
Voltages will range from 6 – 12v, with the 12v batteries being rare. Most golf carts run on 4-6 batteries a total of either 36v or 48v total.
Based on what golf cart batteries are most common we need to look at how to recondition the two main types. Flooded lead acid batteries and AGM batteries.
How to Recondition Lead Acid Golf Cart Batteries:
This process is basically identical to the one above. Showing how to recondition a 12v car battery. The only real differences will be what voltages you measure.
Since I’ve already listed this battery reconditioning process in detail above. I’ll just cover it briefly here. But if you do get stuck you can check above and I recommend you read the section above anyway.

Step 1 – Clean the golf cart batteries outside casing and +/- terminals with baking soda and water. You really want to make sure the battery is clean and the terminals are free of any corrosion. Remember to avoid getting any baking soda and water inside the battery cells at this point.
Step 2 – Check the battery current voltage using a digital multi meter (DMM). Now you’ll want to check the current voltage reading for the battery. Depending on what voltage your battery is rated for this can tell us 3 things.
Your battery is healthy, likely be to refurbish-able or likely dead. Check out the table below to see if its likely you’ll be able to restore your golf cart battery.

Step 3 – Remove cell caps and test each cell. You can do this using a battery hydrometer if you have one or failing that your multi meter. Place your black probe on the negative terminal and drip the red probe in each cell. Remember to wear gloves whilst doing this.
Any cell under 2v isn’t a good sign and potentially that cell could be bad. If you see under 1v then that cell is bad. But the reconditioning could still save it.
Step 4 – Carefully empty your cells into a bucket. Makes sure you wear goggles and gloves at this stage. I highly recommend an apron too. It’s always wise to have some baking soda nearby when dealing with lead acid battery electrolyte. The baking soda will neutralise the acid should you spill any.
Step 5 – Mix 0.5lb of Epsom salt with 0.5 gallons of distilled warm water, preferably boiling if possible. This is to help the Epsom salt dissolve quicker.

Step 7 – Charge the golf cart battery for 24-48 hours. Depending on what battery charger you have available this can take up to two days. You want to put your battery on the slowest trickle charge possible at first. A 2amp trickle charge is ideal.
Step 8 – Measure the voltage of for 1 last update 2020/07/06 your battery again. Hopefully now you should see a much healthier voltage. AGM batteries are very different to flooded lead acid batteries. AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Mat. This is because instead of the cells being full of a liquid electrolyte between the plates. They are filled with a fiberglass mesh containing the electrolyte. They also include a valve that is regulated by pressure building inside the battery.
For this reason, AGM batteries are sealed and can’t be topped up or have their electrolyte changed very easily. As they are considered maintenance free batteries. You’ll need to rebuild the AGM battery and replace the fiberglass mesh.
This we the 1 last update 2020/07/06 generally don’t recommend as you’ll have to cut open the battery to access and replace the cell mesh. Then proxy it back together. If your golf cart batteries are AGM then this isn’t what you’ll want to be hearing. But there is one method you can try which I’ve personally had some good success with and may get your AGM battery going again.
And it’s far less messy and time consuming than rebuilding an AGM. Do this if your AGM golf cart battery is dead and won’t accept a charge from your battery charger. It’s possible its heavily discharged. You will need another healthy battery of the same voltage for this method. Keep that In mind.
Reconditioned AGM Golf Cart Batteries Step by Step:
Step 1 – Measure open circuit voltage (not under load). Do this by measuring the voltage across the +/- terminals with your multi meter on VDC mode.
If it’s not accepting a charge, you’ll likely see a low voltage here. Normally 1-2v under the rating of the battery. If you get under 1v then you can still try this method but it’s likely you’ll need to replace that battery, as you’ll likely got a short circuit.
Step 2 – Using jumper leads connect your bad AGM battery to another battery of the same voltage that is a good battery. Measure this battery’s voltage first and insure its good a good charge. You’ll want to connect the batteries in parallel circuit.

Step 3 – Now you’ll want to connect your battery charger up to the good battery, whilst its still connected to the bad AGM battery. This will increase the voltage in the bad AGM golf cart battery and trick your battery charger into charging it. Even though it wouldn’t charge it earlier.
Step 4 – Disconnect everything by first unplugging the battery charger. Disconnect it from the good battery. Then make sure you remove the negative jumper lead first to avoid any sparks.
Step 5 – Measure open circuit voltage again and if its improved enough you can connect the AGM battery up to a slow battery charger and charge it for 24 hours. It should now hopefully hold a charge once again.
And that’s all. There is too it. You should now have a reconditioned AGM golf cart battery. If you have success with these methods and manage to successfully recondition batteries.
